Service Positions

These are the formal service positions at Perry Street.  Elections are held at the June and December business meetings.

Overall Meetings Coordinator: The term is 1 year. The sobriety requirement is 2 years. The description of this service position includes, but is not limited to; works with time slot meeting coordinators to insure that all slots are filled and assist them with the collection of outstanding money as a liaison to the treasurer. Also responsible to be present at business meetings to fill Promises in Sobriety commitment and accept nominations for new steering committee members. Responsible for passing on guidelines to new chair people. Responsible for interacting with various other group officers to insure smooth flow within the group. Also responsible to convey the group Conscience to members who might deviate from accepted norms. Responsible to mediate scheduling conflicts. Serves on various committees as needed.

Overall Meetings Coordinator Alternate:
The term is 1 year. The sobriety requirement is 2 years. Assists the Overall Meetings Coordinator.

Business Meeting Chair: The term is 6 months. The sobriety requirement is 2 years. Elections are June and December. One male and one female per term are required. Business Meeting Chairs may not hold an officer position at the same time. The description of this service position includes, but is not limited to: maintaining order: guiding the discussion process towards a decision: refraining from interjecting their own opinions, judgments, feelings, ideas or engaging in the discussion: voting if there is a tie: to act as an objective person who moves the meeting along; and resolves conflicts when they arise during the Business Meeting.

Treasurer: The term is 2 years. The sobriety requirement is 2 years. The description of this service position includes, but is not limited to; retrieving the envelopes from the Post Office; reconciling the money with the date and time of the meeting on the envelope: making the Meeting Coordinators aware of discrepancies and late or missing collections: writing checks with the other Signatories; balancing the checking account: monitoring the prudent reserve fund amount and informs group when levels go below agreed upon thresholds: and report all money received and paid out during the prior month at the business meeting. The Treasurer must present quarterly and year-end reports to the business meeting.

At the discretion of the Treasurer, helpers may be enlisted to:
1. Collect the envelopes from the P.O. Box.
2. Maintain the spreadsheets and outstanding collection lists – as needed.
3. Assist the Treasurer in other duties as needed and as defined by the group.

Secretary: The term is 1 year. The sobriety requirement is 1 year. The description of the service position includes, but is not limited to: attending the monthly business meeting; takes minutes of the monthly business meeting; reporting the notes and minutes of the previous business meeting; updating the chairperson announcement cards, new notices and laminating the same, updating the Perry Street ByLaws per group conscious and coordinating with the website coordinator to store the minutes of the meetings.

Meeting Coordinators: The term is as long as the person who accepts the commitment would like to serve. The sobriety requirement is 1 year. The duties of the service position include, but are not limited to: keeping the meeting slots staffed: familiarizing the meeting chairs with the meeting guidelines, interacting with the Overall Chairperson to facilitate the collections for the Treasurer, report any disruptive or violent incidences during the meetings they chair to the Overall Chairperson. It is strongly suggested that they attend at least three business meetings per year.

Meeting Chair:  The term is as long as the person who accepts the commitment would like to serve. The sobriety requirement is 90 days. If you would like to chair a meeting, come to a business meeting or ask someone to bring your request to a business meeting. The duties of the service position include, but are not limited to: keeping order and banning a disruptive member from that meeting, arriving at least 15 minutes before the start of their assigned meeting slot: collecting the money and logging the entry; keeping all receipts for items purchased i.e. toilet paper, paper towels etc.; deducting the amount from the total collection for that meeting; sending the money received in a timely manner; keeping order in the room during the meeting and using sound judgment in the event of a disruption or violent incident; and reporting all matters of that nature to the Meeting Coordinator, the Overall Chairperson and the Safety Committee. Attendance is strongly suggested at three business meetings.

Literature: The term is 1 year. The sobriety requirement is 1 year. The duties of the service position include, but are not limited to: getting check from Treasurer and going to Inter-group to keep the group supplied with meeting books and pamphlets.

General Service Representative (GSR): The term is 2 years. The sobriety requirement is 2 years. The duties of the service position include, but are not limited to: Serves as the link between the group and A.A. General Service.; attends Perry Street business meetings as wellas district and county meetings; represents group conscience at area assemblies and reports back to the group on Conference actions that reflect AA unity, health and growth. Serves as the GSO mail contact for the group (receives Box 459) and keeps the group abreast of AA activities all over the world. Reads and learns about materials available from G.S.O. as well as AA’s Twelve Traditions and Twelve Concepts. Works with group treasurers to develop practical plans for group support of G.S.O. and local intergroup offices, familiar with the AA pamphlet Self-Support: Where Money and Spirituality Mix.

Assistant GSR: The terms is 2 years. The Sobriety requirement is 2 years. With the encouragement of, and in coordination with, the GSR, assists and participates in district and area activities. Attends Perry Street business meetings, as well as district and area meetings where feasible and when the GSR is unable to attend. At the discretion of the group, may take over for the primary GSR when his/her 2-year term is up.

Exchange: The term is 1 year. The sobriety requirement is 1 year. The duties of the service position include, but are not limited to: going to quarterly meetings to book incoming and outgoing speaking commitments for the group. Also responsible for maintaining the calendar and anniversary book.

Grapevine: The term is 1 year. The sobriety requirement is 1 year. The duties of the service position include, but are not limited to: receiving the Grapevine at your home and bringing them to the group. Chairperson receives a check for one year’s worth of Grapevines.

House: The term is 1 year. The sobriety requirement is 1 year. The duties of the service position include, but are not limited to: maintaining integrity of room, ordering supplies, garbage bags,, etc., coordinate with plumbers, electricians, exterminator, locksmith, etc., organize the Sunday cleanup.

Website Coordinator: The term is 2 years. The sobriety requirement is 1 year. Responsibilities include making updates to website as they are approved by the Steering Committee, responding to routine e-mails sent through website and bringing any new business from this mail to the Steering Committee, maintaining accuracy of interim sponsorship coordinator phone numbers and forwarding e-mail addresses for interimsponsorship@perrystreetbusiness.org, and providing current website and domain registration and website administrator login information for www.perrystreetbusiness.org to the Secretary. The Website Coordinator will report at each business meeting

Institutions: The term is 1 year. The sobriety requirement is 1 year. The duties of the service position include, but are not limited to: bring meeting to men’s shelter (at 8 East 3rd Street, 4th floor) 3 times a week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Positions get chair people who get Speakers.

Interim Sponsorship Contacts: The term is as long as the person who accepts the commitment would like to serve. The sobriety requirement is 1 year. There are 3 people in this service position and they are of both genders. The duties of the service commitment include, but are not limited to: posting your phone number on the bulletin board so the Chairperson can announce the posting behind the counter; acting as a conduit for anyone that wishes to have an Interim Sponsor; and when possible to pair people with someone with whom the person requesting a sponsor asked for (for example a sobriety time, age bracket, etc.).

Problems in Sobriety: The term is voted monthly for the month after the next Business Meeting (example in January the person would be appointed for March). The sobriety requirement is 2 years, has not been elected in the past 2 years for this service position and alternates each month by gender. The duties of the service position include, but are not limited to: speaking each Wednesday for the month except the first Wednesday; and the topic is at the discretion of the speaker but should remain under the Problems in Sobriety umbrella.

Parliamentarian: Term of service is 1 year. Amount of sobriety is 1 year. Duties of the service position include but are not limited to: the knowledge and application of Robert’s Rules of Order. Service also includes familiarizing the incoming business chairpersons with Robert’s Rules and the Business Meeting Procedures.

Safety Committee Member: Term is 1 year. The sobriety requirement is 2 years as an active member of The Perry Street Workshop and regular attendance at meetings. 5 members in total. For the first two years, 2 people will remain on committee to advise the three new members.
